Studies show that the best bosses are skilled at interpersonal relationship building, constructively criticizing, and leading buy example. We've all (hopefully) had the pleasure of working under a great boss - someone who effectively manages a team without ever feeling like, well, the boss. But what about the rest? Middling managers are unfortunately more of the norm than we'd all like to admit, but they generally keep everything running smoothly. But the bad bosses? They do more harm than good.

Posted by: - November 15, 2012In the past, hiring younger folks wasn't the ideal thought. Why? Let's think about it...the lack of experience, employees being unsure of their professionalism, and thinking of them as naive to the world. Fortunately, these aren't the thoughts of many hiring managers today. Why is this? Companies find the "y generation" more appealing these days for several reasons. What do you think?
Posted by: - November 8, 2012We all have different personality types. Some of us have strong personalities, maybe very vocal, while others are more laid back and don't speak up as often as they'd like. Regardless of either extreme, each personality type can be natural leaders. Are you? Here are a few characteristics that determine quality leadership skills.
Posted by: - November 6, 2012People who work in laid back, fun, and happy work environments tend to be the happiest and most successful. Some companies beg to differ because they feel the more serious an employee the more focus. That's not necessarily true. Why?
Posted by: - October 31, 2012With so many social media platforms out there, constantly changing, how is it possible to keep up with them all? Posted by: - October 23, 2012Linked In is a great social media tool used by many professionals to network over the Internet. Posted by: - October 17, 2012So let’s face it. There are things that we don’t know about recruiters that we might be curious about. Are they really out for your best interest or theirs? What is it that they do day in and day out? After working around many here at Verigent, all with different personality types, it seems as if they have the same agenda and that is to find the right match for our clients and our employees. How do they do this?
Posted by: - October 10, 2012Interviewing can be nerve-racking, but you have to remind yourself that at least you landed the interview in the first place. After the interview can be even more distracting because you don't know the status right away...well at least not typically. Every company handles their hiring processes differently, so when following up, you don't want to come across too aggressive, but it is important to show genuine interest. How can you do this?

Linked In is a form of social media, which is designed to help professionals network with each other via the Internet. Think of it as an online resume that highlights your attributes and background experiences. It allows companies, hiring managers, and job seekers to connect with each other seeing what people knowledge and skills others have to offer.

Posted by: - September 20, 2012For most people, the typical work week (Monday-Friday) consists of 40 hours, including taking a lunch break each day. Others who tend to work above 40 hours are often called workaholics. Where do you see yourself? Is it really worth it to work more hours than necessary? In this blog, I will share my opinion of the pros and cons of working overtime. The main objective of working more is to stay productive and get more accomplish. Are people really doing that though or are they spinning their wheels?
Posted by: - September 19, 2012Negative thoughts are often portrayed from actions, words, or impressions from the outside world. Depending on the type of person you are, you may have a tremendous amount of negativity, or you may be someone who possesses a very little amount. Regardless, any negative thoughts can begin to bring you down, as well as the people around you, so why not avoid them? If you begin to dwell on all that is bad these thoughts will start to turn into actions. Who really wants to be known as a negative person anyway? I know I don’t! Posted by: - August 23, 2012Let’s face it. When it comes to finances, we all want to earn as much as possible as quickly as possible. Is that logical? For some professions, perhaps, but for most professions, there are a number of factors that come into play. The location of your job, the type of industry you’re in, your educational background, and experience will all determine how much you should generally make.

Posted by: - August 17, 2012What are references and why are they important? References are people whom the job seeker chooses to be called upon if the hiring manager wants to learn more information about the selected candidate. It is important for people to choose quality references that will be honest and express the job seeker in a professional manner.
Posted by: - August 9, 2012If you are seeking job opportunities, chances are that you have worked with a recruiter or at least spoken to one. Recruiters and staffing firms sometimes have a negative reputation, however, they can be quite helpful when it comes to job hunting. If you choose to wok with a staffing firm, it is vital that you understand whether or not you are working with a quality recruiter and a legitimate company. How can you tell?
Posted by: - August 6, 2012In today’s world, there are multiple varieties of communication. There is the old-fashioned, “face to face” communication, talking on the phone, but not typically a phone at home…more like a mobile phone. There is text messaging, video conferencing, instant messaging, all types of social media platforms, and emailing. I’m sure there are others that I’m leaving out, but these seem to be the most popular forms. I would have to argue though that in the workplace, emailing and talking on the phone seem to be the most popular when handling business.
Posted by: - August 3, 2012Let’s face it. We have all procrastinated from time to time. Why do people procrastinate? The answer to that question can vary from person to person. In general it is because the person might lack motivation or they may not be in the right mindset to accomplish tasks at hand. It could even be because they are overwhelmed with their “to do list”. Regardless, it is necessary to avoid in order to remain productive.
Posted by: - July 31, 2012Want to see resume mistakes that people actually got away with? How did it work for them and why? Brought to us by Ceridian, Verigent's payroll company.
Posted by: - July 30, 2012Does your resume express your true talents? By reading it, will others feel as if they understand all of your unique qualities? Probably not. Your resume is often highlighting your past successes, but does not go into major detail about who you are, your work ethic, or your full capabilities.
Posted by: - July 27, 2012
Posted by: - July 24, 2012Does networking really benefit professionals? The answer to that question can vary from person to person. People who attend these events and don’t put themselves out there will find that it was a waste of their time. Others who anxiously attend, speaking to a variety of people, and seem passionate about their career seem to enjoy the benefits of networking.
Posted by: - July 20, 2012It is human nature that people are motivated by money, recognition, and more responsibility. The first two may be obvious, leaving you questioning why some might be motivated with more work. The reason people are eager to take on more important duties is because it makes them feel needed, it makes them feel devoted, and it makes them feel accomplished.
Posted by: Brittany Keenan - July 16, 2012Looking for work can often feel like a full-time job itself. With the economy the way it is, employers get flooded with resumes, so unless you know someone you can often be just another resume. How can you avoid this? Networking is a useful activity that you can participate in, but many have started working with staffing firms.
